How to reserve, what to expect, and how payment works.
How do I book a session?+
Book online through our
booking page. Select your experience, choose a date and time, enter your details, and pay. The whole process takes about 2 minutes. You'll receive a confirmation email instantly with everything you need.
How far in advance can I book?+
Bookings are available up to 60 days in advance. We open new availability on a rolling basis. For corporate or retreat bookings, we recommend reaching out at least 4β6 weeks ahead to ensure your preferred date.
Do I pay the full amount when booking?+
You can choose how you'd like to pay:
Deposit (50%): Pay half now to secure your spot. The balance is collected on arrival before your session begins.
Pay in Full: Pay everything upfront β nothing to worry about on the day.
Both options include full access to the free cancellation window (72+ hours before your session).
Is there a minimum booking age?+
The primary guest on any booking must be 19 or older (BC legal age). Guests aged 16β18 are welcome when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is also participating in the session. Children under 16 are not permitted due to sauna safety guidelines.
Can I book as a gift for someone else?+
Yes β we offer
digital gift cards in any denomination. These are emailed instantly and valid for 12 months. If you want to book a specific date as a gift, simply enter the recipient's details in the booking form and note it in the special requests field β we'll handle it from there.
Can I modify my booking after it's confirmed?+
Yes. You can change your date, time, or guest count by emailing
joel@howesoundservices.com with your booking reference number. Changes are subject to availability. We're flexible and always try to accommodate.
Is the sauna available every day?+
The sauna operates 7 days a week, weather and conditions permitting. We reserve the right to close on days of extreme weather, active fire bans (which prevent wood burning), or for maintenance. Affected guests are always offered a full reschedule or refund. We post status updates on our Instagram.
What actually happens when you arrive.
What happens during my session?+
On arrival, we welcome you and orient you to the facility. The sauna will be preheated and ready. A typical session looks like:
- 15β20 minutes in the sauna (or until you feel the heat deeply)
- Cold plunge into Howe Sound β 30 seconds to a few minutes
- Rest on the deck β warm drinks, views, recovery
- Repeat as many times as you like within your session
There's no agenda. You set the pace. We simply give you the space to do it right.
How hot does the sauna get?+
The sauna reaches 80β95Β°C (176β203Β°F). We typically operate around 88β92Β°C, which is ideal for the Scandinavian sauna experience. You can adjust the intensity by choosing a lower bench (cooler) or upper bench (hotter) and by how much water you ladle onto the stones.
What is the cold plunge like?+
The cold plunge is
Howe Sound itself β one of the most naturally pristine fjord environments on the coast. Depending on the season, water temperature ranges from about 7Β°C in winter to 14Β°C in summer. The contrast with the sauna is intense and exhilarating. Most guests describe their first plunge as life-changing β or at least, very clarifying.
The cold plunge is optional. You're welcome to cool down outdoors on the deck instead.
How many rounds can we do?+
As many as you like, within your session time. Most guests complete 3β5 full sauna-plunge cycles in a 90-minute session. Your body will tell you when it's had enough. We recommend at least 10 minutes of rest between rounds.
What's included in every session?+
Every session includes:
- Fully heated wood-fired sauna
- Cold plunge access to Howe Sound
- Premium towels and robes for each guest
- Post-sauna refreshments (herbal tea, water)
- Full private use of the facility
- A session host on-site for safety and orientation
Can I bring food or drinks?+
You're welcome to bring non-alcoholic beverages. We ask that you avoid bringing food inside the sauna itself. Add-on catering (charcuterie boards, sparkling wine) is available to book when making your reservation. Please no glass on the dock β we supply all glassware.
Pack light. We handle the rest.
What should I wear?+
Bring a swimsuit β that's the main thing. We provide robes, towels, and slippers. Most guests wear their swimsuit the entire time, layering the robe between rounds. You'll want something you're comfortable being active in, as the movement between sauna and water can be vigorous.
Do I need to bring a towel?+
No β we provide premium organic cotton towels for every guest. Bringing your own is fine but not necessary. We do ask guests not to bring synthetic or treated towels inside the sauna.
What should I NOT bring?+
Please leave the following at home or in your vehicle:
- Glass containers on the dock
- Perfumes or synthetic body products (they don't mix well with sauna heat)
- Pets β unfortunately we can't accommodate them on the dock
- Large bags (space is limited)
Phones and cameras are welcome but please be mindful β some guests are there for the silence.
Should I eat before my session?+
We recommend eating a light meal 1β2 hours before your session. A full stomach and sauna heat don't mix well. Stay well hydrated beforehand β the sauna draws significant sweat and it's harder to rehydrate quickly in session. We provide water throughout.
Where we are and how to find us.
Where exactly is Within Wild?+
We're located at the Britannia Beach dock, Britannia Beach, BC, on Howe Sound. Exact dock coordinates are included in your booking confirmation email. If you're driving: take Hwy 99 north from Vancouver (approx. 55 min) or south from Squamish (approx. 12 min). We'll send detailed parking and arrival instructions before your session.
Is there parking available?+
Yes β free parking is available at the dock for up to 12 vehicles. Spaces fill up on busy summer weekends. We recommend arriving 10β15 minutes early. If you arrive and there's no space, there is additional public parking 200m north along the highway.
Can I get here without a car?+
Yes. BC Transit Route 99 runs between Vancouver and Squamish and stops at Britannia Beach. The ride from Vancouver is approximately 1 hour. From the bus stop, it's a 5-minute walk to the dock. We're also a popular stop for cyclists on the Sea-to-Sky. Bike storage is available on-site.
What should I do if I'm running late?+
Call or text us as soon as you know β the number is in your confirmation email. If you're less than 15 minutes late, we'll do our best to absorb that time into your session. Unfortunately, we cannot extend sessions beyond their booked end time as the next group may be arriving. We appreciate punctuality.
Our policy is designed to be fair. See the full cancellation policy.
What is your cancellation policy?+
- 72+ hours before: Full refund, no questions asked
- 48β72 hours before: 50% refund
- Less than 48 hours: No refund (session forfeited)
- No-show: No refund
Weather and fire bans are handled separately β see below.
What happens if there's a fire ban?+
When an active fire ban is in effect, we
cannot operate the wood-fired sauna. If your booking falls on a banned day, you will be contacted immediately and offered:
- A full reschedule to any available date
- A full refund
We monitor fire ban status daily and notify affected guests as early as possible.
What if the weather is bad?+
The sauna itself provides full shelter regardless of weather β in fact, many guests prefer a session on a rainy day. We only cancel for extreme weather (high winds making water conditions unsafe, lightning, or severe storm warnings). If we cancel due to weather, you'll receive a full reschedule or refund. If you choose to cancel because of weather β and we haven't cancelled β our standard policy applies.
Can I reschedule instead of cancelling?+
Yes β always. Rescheduling is always free, any time before your session, subject to availability. Just email
joel@howesoundservices.com with your booking reference and your preferred new dates.
How long do refunds take?+
Refunds are processed immediately on our end via Stripe. Depending on your bank, the funds typically appear within 5β10 business days. If you've paid by deposit, we refund to the original card used. For full payments, refunds return to the same payment method.
Your safety is our highest priority.
Is it safe for everyone?+
For most healthy adults, sauna and cold plunge use is very safe and beneficial. However, we
recommend consulting your physician before your session if you have any of the following:
- Cardiovascular conditions or high blood pressure
- Pregnancy
- Epilepsy or seizure conditions
- Skin conditions sensitive to heat
- Recent surgery
Our session hosts are trained in first aid and emergency water response.
Do I need to sign a waiver?+
Yes. All guests are required to sign a liability waiver before their session. A link is emailed to you after booking β please complete it at your convenience before arriving. You can also sign on-site, though completing it in advance saves time. The waiver covers the inherent risks of sauna, cold plunge, and waterfront activity.
Can I drink alcohol before or during my session?+
No. Alcohol significantly increases the risk of dehydration, dizziness, and fainting in a sauna environment. We do not allow alcohol to be consumed during sessions. Guests who appear intoxicated on arrival will not be permitted to participate and will not receive a refund. Celebrate after β we think that's the better order anyway.
Is there always someone on-site?+
Yes. A trained session host is present for every booking. They orient you on arrival, answer questions, and are available throughout your session for safety and assistance. They stay out of your way so you can relax fully β but they're always nearby.
What if someone in my group feels unwell?+
Alert your session host immediately. Common symptoms like dizziness or light-headedness are normal for first-time sauna users β cool down, hydrate, and rest in the shade. Our hosts are trained to assess and respond. In the event of any medical emergency, we have an emergency action plan and will call 911 if necessary. Squamish General Hospital is 20 minutes away.
